Hello, Furriends.
I started this year with very reasonable goals: Find sunbeams. Write poetry. Supervise my Purrson. Sprint the hallway at 3am when necessary. Somewhere along the way, I apparently won my group and advanced to the Quarterfinals of America’s Favorite Pet.
I did not schedule this, nor was I consulted. However, after careful consideration (and a nap), I have decided that if I am to participate in such matters, I will do so properly.
My platform is simple: Literacy for All Cats.
Every cat deserves to read, and not just biscuit recipes. To enjoy the classics, such as The Cat Who series. Joe Grey and Mrs. Murphy mysteries. Tailchaser’s Song. Puss in Boots. Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. The Black Cat by Poe — one of my purrsonal favorites.
I have always believed that reading makes us better. More thoughtful. More strategic. More prepared to leap unexpectedly onto countertops. We are creatures of narrative. We stalk, we observe, we contemplate from high shelves. To deny a cat poetry is to deny him enrichment. To withhold books is to stunt the imagination. The world is already chaotic enough without illiterate felines.
I did not set out to become a candidate; I set out to write. Yet here we are — advancing, apparently, toward something called “Semifinals,” should the sunbeam widen further. I am told voting occurs daily. I am told humans enjoy participating in such rituals. I have chosen to interpret this as widespread support for literary advancement.
Quarterfinal voting runs 2/16–2/26. I am told there is one free vote per day. Even a human can manage that.
If you feel inclined to participate in this strange and wonderful civic ritual, I appreciate you more than you know. The link for voting and updates can be found here, on my Facebook page: Mewsings of a Black Cat.
In the meantime, I will continue my important work: observing, writing, and occasionally pushing small objects from tables for dramatic emphasis.
The revolution will be well-read.
Literacy for All Cats.
Purrs and Possibility,
Tyson 🐾
