Love Your Pet Day: Finally, a Holiday That Makes Sense

February 20, 2025 by Tyson Leave a Comment

There are many holidays humans celebrate that leave me… confused.
Talk Like a Pirate Day? No thank you.
National Bean Day? Vaguely insulting.
Take Your Dog to Work Day? Utter madness.

But then—finally—a holiday with some actual value. Love Your Pet Day.

A whole day where humans are reminded to appreciate their furry (or feathery, or scaly) companions? Yes. More of that, please. Ideally with tuna.

Love Isn’t Always Loud (But Sometimes It Is)

Here’s the thing: not all pets love in the same way. Some of us are lap magnets. Others are aloof observers of your daily chaos. Some like snuggles, some like snacks, and some—looking at you, dogs—like both, loudly, all the time.

Love Your Pet Day is a great time to notice how your pet communicates affection… and how we prefer to receive it. For example:

  • I purr when I’m happy.
  • I blink slowly when I trust you.
  • I bring you hair ties and then act surprised you don’t eat them.
  • I stare into the void at 3 a.m. to protect you from invisible dangers.

That’s love, my friend.

A Few Things We Wouldn’t Mind Today:

  1. That treat you hide in the high cabinet
  2. The good brush (yes, the one with the soft bristles)
  3. A new toy. Or a box. Or a toy that came in a box.
  4. You staying still long enough for a nap on your legs
  5. Not being told “no” when we climb on the counter “just to look”

A Love Manifesto

I know I’m loved. My Purrson tells me with every gentle scritch behind the ears, every whispered “handsome boy,” and every attempt to sweep around me instead of under me.

But Love Your Pet Day isn’t just about pets feeling loved—it’s also about how we love you back:

  • We greet you when you come home (even if we pretend not to care).
  • We nap where you’ve just been to hold onto your scent.
  • We show up when you’re sad, and sometimes, when you least expect it, we bring calm, comfort, and the softest purr you’ve ever heard.

We may be mysterious, but our affection is real. And very, very fluffy.

Final Thoughts (Before I Nap)

You don’t need a holiday to love us—but if you’ve got one, we expect full observance. So give us the snuggles. Give us the treats. Give us the respect we so clearly deserve.

And if you’re reading this beside your own pet, give them a little scritch from me. Just not on the belly. That’s a trap. You’ve been warned.

Purrs and thoughtful toe beans,
Tyson 🐾
