Full Moon Meditation: The Worm Moon

March 14, 2025 by Tyson Leave a Comment

Greetings, human. It is I, Tyson, your whiskered companion through the shifting seasons.

Tonight, we welcome the Worm Moon, the last full moon of winter. Its name comes from the softening of the earth, when worms begin to stir beneath the surface and the world prepares to wake. It is a moon of small movement, subtle change, and quiet return.

Find your resting place – near your cat, beneath a window, or somewhere you can feel the earth’s quiet breath – and prepare to listen for the first signs of spring.

Let us begin.

Step 1: Settle into the Soil

Sit or lie down in stillness. Feel the floor beneath you—solid, yet holding the secrets of life just below.

If you can see the moon, excellent. If not, imagine it low and full, glowing like a soft lantern above the thawing land.

Close your eyes.
Breathe in the scent of damp earth.
Breathe out the last frost in your thoughts.

Cats are masters of stillness before action.
Let that be your lesson tonight.

Step 2: The Stretch of Soft Awakening

Raise your arms slowly, like sprouts reaching toward sun and moon.
Flex your fingers as if they’re brushing through cool soil or chasing a very dignified worm.

Inhale the newness.
Exhale the stiffness.

Move like the world is just beginning to wake—and you’re the first to notice.

Step 3: Let the Moon Nudge You Gently

Picture the Worm Moon above, its light brushing across the land like whiskers against your cheek.

Let it gather in your chest.
Let it warm your paws (or feet).
Let it whisper: it is time to begin again.

Breathe in gentle encouragement.
Breathe out old resistance.
Breathe in softness.
Breathe out fear.

Cats don’t rush.
We wait for the right moment—and then we leap.

Step 4: The Purr Beneath the Surface

There is a rhythm underground, even now.

If your cat is nearby, listen for the sound of their breath or purr.
If not, imagine the steady rumble of a hidden engine, warm and reassuring.

Now, breathe with that rhythm:

Inhale softly…
Exhale slowly…
Inhale…
Exhale…

Each breath stirs something beneath the surface.

Step 5: Trust the Quiet Shift

The Worm Moon doesn’t shout.
It hums.
It nudges.
It says, “Come back now. It’s time.”

Feel the gentle return of energy in your limbs.
Feel your thoughts stretch like roots waking in the dirt.

Not everything has to bloom at once.
Sometimes, the first move is simply being ready.

Step 6: Return with Earth on Your Paws

When you’re ready, wiggle your fingers like they’re burrowing through moss.
Stretch like a cat uncurling from a sunbeam.
Blink yourself back into the room with the grace of something newly sprouted.

If your cat is watching you closely, you have been judged worthy.
If your cat is licking their own paw, they are showing you how it’s done.

Carry the patience of the Worm Moon with you.

And remember: The world is stirring. You’re allowed to stir with it.

Purrs and slow awakenings,
Tyson 🐾
